“Digital Public Goods: The Bridge Between Innovation and Inclusive Development"

In a world where technology is rapidly redefining how we live, work, and connect, Digital Public Goods (DPGs) stand as the silent yet powerful force ensuring that innovation benefits everyone — not just a privileged few.

DPGs are more than just open-source code, data sets, AI models, or digital platforms; they are the foundation for building an equitable digital future. By being accessible, adaptable, and freely usable, they empower communities, innovators, and governments to solve pressing challenges — from education gaps in rural areas to healthcare shortages in underserved regions.

Imagine a Sierra Leone where every student, regardless of location, has access to world-class learning materials; where farmers can access free, reliable climate data to improve harvests; where public health systems can integrate technology at zero licensing cost. This is not a distant dream — it is the tangible promise of DPGs.

But their impact does not happen by accident. It requires collective will — innovators contributing code, policymakers creating enabling environments, and citizens embracing and sustaining these tools. DPGs thrive in collaboration, and their strength grows when people engage, contribute, and reimagine possibilities together.

The conversation about DPGs is not just about technology. It’s about digital sovereignty, social equity, and future-proofing our nations. Every voice matters in this discourse — because the future of digital development is not something we inherit passively; it is something we actively co-create.

So today, let’s move beyond seeing technology as a product to consume — and start seeing it as a public good to steward. The bridge between innovation and inclusive development is already here. We just need to walk across it, together.

I am trying to develop an AI for educational purposes only based on the Sierra Leone Curriculum through the Orange Digital Foundation Centre as I am studying AI for All on Coursera. The AI model (App) is already on test with 90 people using it actively.

This is awesome, we are looking forward to what you will build.

Are you developing an entirely new model, or building on an existing AI model? And are you considering making it open-source?

Sure an open source sir. Can I install all devices….

It’s great that you are considering making it open-source.

I don’t understand the part about devices‽ What devices‽

Not only phone sir…. Even a computer you can use the app

Wow that’s amazing we’re looking forward to see your brilliant idea . And I believe with DPG there’ll be sustainability in each project that align with their goals and also in the interest of the people
