Digital Public Goods (DPG) University Meetup – IPAM Chapter

Attendance: 60 Participants + 3 Organizers
The DPG University Meetup held at IPAM DSTi Hub was a great success, with a total of 60 active participants and 3 core organizers. The session was engaging, impactful, and served its purpose of enlightening university students about the DPG movement and its practical relevance.

Welcome & Opening:
The event began with a warm welcome by Sheku Jan Kamara, who introduced the purpose of the meetup and officially welcomed Madam Hawa Kallon, our distinguished guest from MOCTI. -
DPG Overview:
Ibrahim Success Swaray gave an insightful presentation on what Digital Public Goods are, their importance, standards, mission, and vision. He also shared resources and a link for participants to learn more and get involved. -
Practical Session on Git & GitHub:
Madam Hawa Kallon delivered a comprehensive, beginner-friendly session on:- What Git and GitHub are
- The importance of version control
- How to install Git
- Creating a GitHub account
- Repository creation and commits
- Real-world application of GitHub in tech ecosystems

Participant Engagement:
- Participants were fully engaged throughout the detailed session, especially during the practical segment. They actively followed along with the hands-on GitHub training, where each was shown step-by-step practical guidance. Most participants were able to successfully create a GitHub repository and make their first commit.
- A participant list was collected
- Food and transport stipends were provided
- Group photos were taken to capture the memorable event
Next Steps:
The IPAM Chapter is hoping to host another DPG meetup before the end of the year, with a continued focus on both technical and community-building sessions.
Conclusion:
The event successfully met its objective of raising awareness around Digital Public Goods and equipping students with practical GitHub skills. We extend our gratitude to MOCTI, the participants, and all organizers who made this possible.
